Road to 2050

a path forward that focuses on innovation, research
and beneficial management practices

In March of 2022, Grain Growers of Canada (GGC) announced the “Road to 2050” –  a climate solutions initiative to help meet Canada’s ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. This climate solutions initiative will propose a path forward that focuses on innovation, research, and beneficial management practices, that will reduce emissions, while feeding a growing world population.

Policy Priorities

Over the past few decades, grain farmers have led the way when it comes to innovation and sustainability. However, adoption of these technologies is becoming more expensive. Fuel and input costs have also risen dramatically in recent years.

Innovation is the key to the grain sector achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Our roadmap aims to get us there by building:

  • A regulatory environment that encourages investment in research and development.
  • Access to the newest and best genetics and crop protection products.
  • Government partnerships to ensure maximum sustainable production while protecting our wetlands, forests and grasslands.
